United Airlines Carry On Size (Personal Item)
Flying requires personal items like backpacks and large totes as they are the only luggage categories that passengers can readily access without leaving their seats. Personal items are small enough to fit under the chair in front of you and are often seen as the bag allowed for even the most basic of economy fares.
Most passengers are aware that they can bring a free carry-on bag during their United Airlines flight. However, it is important to know the rules and restrictions for personal items as well. We have conducted the necessary research so that you don’t have to. Here’s everything you need to know about United’s personal item regulations.
One personal item is given free of charge to all United Airlines passengers. However, it is important to note that Basic Economy passengers are not entitled to a free carry-on item, except for on South American, trans-Atlantic, or trans-Pacific flights.
When flying with United Airlines, it is important to keep in mind that the personal item you bring must safely fit underneath the seat in front of you, just like with most other airlines. Although the company does not specify the type of item allowed, there are size limits that will be discussed shortly.
United Airlines allows passengers to bring additional items, such as jackets, umbrellas, reading material, food purchased at the airport, assistive or medical devices, pet carriers (fees apply), cameras, diaper bags, child safety seats, breast pumps, and more.
